Abstract

Porous silicon (PS) is an interesting material as it is possible to tune the pore diameter from a few nanometers up to several hundred nanometers using electrochemical etching that produces a highly reactive hydrogen terminated internal surface. Such structure allows immobilizing a large quantity of biomolecules in a small volume through bioconjugation. Consequently, PS can serve as a versatile platform for optical or electrical sensor development.  We present here a comparison of two different techniques used for bioconjugation of porous silicon for use in sensor systems.
